Letters To The Editor

The president needs to fully understand the consequences of his actions. For example, he needs to know the harm he can do to families with some of the provisions in his proposed 2011 budget. I work in the oil and gas industry in the Fayetteville Shale formation, as do several of my friends and relatives. My livelihood and theirs rests with the oil and gas industry. The president put a provision in his budget to repeal the Section 199 manufacturers’ tax exemption for oil and gas companies. He has singled out the industry for punishment. In doing so, he has singled out my family and others for hardship. The president says he wants to help American families recover from the recession. But then he proposes something like repealing the Section 199 deduction for the oil and gas industry without giving it a second thought, without bothering to learn that it would rob people of their jobs and their income. I want what’s best for my family. I want the Section 199 tax deduction to stand.
